About Us
We publish a free, modern browser version of Mahjong solitaire — the 144-tile matching puzzle — with unlimited undo, hints, a shuffle that keeps every board solvable, and a layout that works on any screen.
Our craft
One set. Total order.
Read the stack, free the right tiles, lift every pair off. That loop is everything we design around.

What we make
mahjonggame.app is the site behind our version of Mahjong solitaire. The product is a single-player tile puzzle: the 144 tiles are stacked in the Turtle, and you clear the board by matching free tiles two at a time until nothing is left.
We are not an app-store publisher and there is nothing to download. The game is the website. That keeps load times short, works on phones and desktops alike, and avoids an account wall. Best times, scores, win rates, and streaks live in local browser storage on your device.
If you are comparing this to a four-player mahjong site, this one is the solitaire form only — no opponents, no hands, no betting. The rules described in our how-to-play guide and FAQ match this exact build.
Our story
The solitaire form of mahjong has been a fixture of computers since the 1980s. We treat that as a reason to get the rules exactly right and the friction as close to zero as we can.
Mahjong as a four-player game took shape in China in the 19th century and spread around the world in the 1920s. Its 144 tiles — three number suits, the Winds and Dragons, and the Flowers and Seasons — are the same set every solitaire version draws from.
The single-player form is much younger. Brodie Lockard designed a computer version called Shanghai, released by Activision in 1986, that stacked the tiles in a fixed shape and asked the player to remove matching free pairs. Its signature layout, the Turtle, is the one on this site.
mahjonggame.app is an independent, modern implementation of that idea. The rules are unchanged; what is new is a rendering that is crisp on a phone, a layout that fits the whole Turtle on one screen, synthesized sound with a real mute, and tools — hints, unlimited undo, a solvable shuffle — that keep a board from ever being a dead end you cannot leave.
What we stand for
Open the page and a board is already dealt. No account wall, no download, no splash video — the Turtle is on the table before you finish reading this sentence.
Every board is built backwards from a real solution, so a full clear always exists. Shuffle re-deals the remaining tiles into another solvable position instead of ending the run.
Best time, best score, win rate, and win streak live on your device. We do not hold your record behind a login, because there is no login.
The whole game is free forever. No lives meter, no interstitial video ads between boards, no surprise paywall on the shuffle button.
Who it is for
mahjonggame.app is a family-friendly, single-player game with no chat and no store. A poor fit if you want four-player mahjong or live events; a good fit if you want the matching puzzle, done well, on whatever screen is nearby.
A board takes three to fifteen minutes. Mahjong solitaire is built for a phone on the couch or a browser tab between tasks, not a long campaign.
There is no clock forcing a move and nothing to react to. The entire challenge is the order you choose to take the tiles in.
Your record stays on the device you played on. That is a deliberate trade: instant play and real privacy, with no cloud restore.
Why this site
Mahjong solitaire has thousands of implementations online. This one exists to ship a single honest, fast version — solvable boards, real tools, and no clutter.
Some sites deal the tiles at random and leave you to discover the board was never solvable. Here, every board has a complete path — getting stuck means a wrong turn, and undo or shuffle gets you moving again.
Unlimited undo, a hint that points at a live matching pair, and a shuffle that keeps the remaining tiles solvable rather than reshuffling into another dead end.
No auto-playing video, no fake "download our app" banners, no dark patterns around the settings. The how-to-play guide and FAQ describe this exact engine, not a generic write-up.
How we build
The game runs entirely on the web: fast loads, tap and keyboard controls, and progress that stays local unless you clear your browser data. We use lightweight analytics to see what helps players — never to gate the game behind a profile. The engine on the home page is the one described on our rules pages, so search results and the live game never drift apart.
Phone, tablet, and desktop share one board. Tap tiles on a touchscreen, click with a mouse, or use the keyboard shortcuts for undo, hint, shuffle, and new game.
Best time, best score, win rate, and streak are stored locally. You own the continuity of your record without signing up.
We watch aggregate usage through Google Analytics to improve pacing and polish. Details are in our Privacy Policy — never as a sales pitch.
